Advisory Committee

The CCHSE/OEE Advisory Committee has been providing strategic energy efficiency leadership to the Canadian health care sector since 1999 as part of the College’s partnership with NRCan. This joint initiative is based on the recognition that Canada accepted international obligations under the Kyoto Accord and has established a national goal of stabilizing greenhouse gas emissions.
We acknowledge that energy efficiency is a significant means to addressing these national and international commitments.

Premised upon our mutual interest in developing cost-effective and flexible actions for improved use of energy and subsequently limiting net greenhouse gas emissions, both partners support a national approach for increased energy efficiency by engaging health care organizations in implementing voluntary actions consistent with meeting the sustainable development objectives of health care organizations.

Committee members are chosen on the basis of their regional, financial, administrative and technical expertise and all serve on a purely volunteer basis.

The role of the Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee is to:

work in partnership with Natural Resources Canada to identify and reduce barriers which impede the adoption of energy efficiency in Canadian health care organizations.

work with health care organizations to build awareness about the economic and environmental benefits of energy efficiency.
to gain support for energy efficiency and its relationship to health buildings and climate change.
encourage participation in the Energy Innovators Initiative and other NRCan programmes and to register their commitment to energy efficiency through the Climate Change Voluntary Challenge Registry.
document accomplishments and case studies in responding to climate change through energy initiatives.
encourage information sharing
encourage registered Innovator organizations to play a lead role in energy efficiency practices for that region and to provide leadership to other organizations in developing energy efficiency action plans.
